GUSII LAND, KENYA 2026
Region Overview
The Gusii Land area, formed by the Kisii and Nyamira counties, is one of Kenya’s most concentrated and influential regions, with a population of roughly 2.4 million people.
Transforming Gusii could shape spiritual, social, and economic ecosystems far beyond its borders.
The Momentum
Between March and September 2025, Shine partnered with local churches and para-church organizations to train over 600 leaders, strengthening unity and regional readiness. Pilot missions in Nyamira North and South in October 2025 produced over 3,000 documented decisions for Christ, increased civic openness, and activated strong volunteer networks.
The region is spiritually receptive and structurally prepared for a large-scale movement.
The Opportunity
Although Kenya is predominantly Christian, Gusii Land reflects a noticeable gap between Christian identity and societal reality. Widespread challenges—such as corruption, gender-based violence, family breakdown, substance abuse, mental health concerns, and erosion of public trust—reveal underlying fractures that affect community well-being. The region is spiritually vibrant, yet the lived experience shows a need for deeper alignment between faith and daily life. Gusii is also known nationally for its long-standing associations with witchcraft and the public lynching of alleged witches, underscoring the need for renewed hope, healing, and gospel-centered transformation.
This moment presents a rare opportunity to realign the region’s strong faith foundation with renewed integrity, unity, and community healing through the power of the gospel.
